You know what’s crazy? I’ll tell you what’s crazy™
My contempt for humans.
They are capable of purposeful evil and egregious selfishness.
I am reminded of this recently as I stare at the Xray of a puppy that has been shot by men so irrational, so morally deficient, I am having trouble containing my anger.
It all starts as a drug deal goes bad.
It all begins with 2 armed men breaking into an apartment.
The men want drugs and guns and cash.
Instead, they find a puppy in the bathroom.
What do they do?
BLAM! BLAM!
They open fire striking the small creature two times.
Why?
Who the hell knows.
Maybe the little dog was barking and they wanted it to shut it up.
What better way to create silence than to open fire with a high-caliber hand gun.
BLAM.
BLAM.
Yeah, nobody will call the police after hearing that inside an apartment.
The dog is shot in the back side and the front leg.
I’m not sure what happened to the drug deal gone bad. I’m not sure what they got or didn’t get.
I know that nobody was arrested.
I do know the little dog disappeared into the nearby woods for 2 days.
Bleeding, scared, in pain, the little dog hunkered down in the woods, no food, no water.
What must the little dog have been thinking, staring through the high grass at the apartment complex that had once been home.
Was the little dog shaking?, quivering? wondering in its little dog mind, why humanity is so morally bankrupt?
Did the little dog know that the men were spawns of satan, ambassadors of ignorance?
Or did the little dog sit in the tall grass, whimpering in pain, longing for love, for someone to make the hurt stop hurting?
Can you imagine lying in the cold underbelly of fright, your front leg shattered beyond repair?
What if the man who pulled the trigger had been laying there?
Would he whimper and hide?
Or like the piece of human garbage he is, would he limp into an ER and demand free medical treatment?
After 2 days, the little dog is rescued and rushed to the Doggie ER.
The x-ray of K9 bone looked more like confetti popped on New Year’s Eve.
Doctors asses the injuries, the nerve damage, and decide the only option is amputation.
When I meet the little dog, it pees on the floor.
Maybe it’s scared of me, maybe she’s just a puppy and she needs to be potty trained.
I let her smell my hand.
She nervously sniffs, and decides I’m ok to pet her head.
I’m glad she likes me.
I want to be a reminder to her that people can be good.
I don’t have a gun, I have no mal-intent, I have no intentions of aiming a fire arm at her and pulling the trigger from 3 feet away.
She is cute as she can be.
I watch as her ears perk up. She is part shepherd and part something else.
She is wearing a pink doggie bandage and she hops on her three legs like a little bunny.
“She doesn’t even know she is missing it,” the vet says. “they compensate well. she is young and will learn to maneuver stairs and the couch. she’s really smart.”
As I pet the little dog, I can’t help but think about the douche bags that shot this puppy.
Where are they tonight?
Who else are they hurting?
What kind of evil manifests itself in a man who can stand over a dog and shoot it point-blank?
Is it evil? Is it ignorance?
Man is capable of such atrocity and heinous behavior.
Animals are pure.
They don’t know how to be evil. They only do what they must do to survive.
Given food and water and shelter, all they want to do is love the hand that feeds.
This little dog did nothing wrong.
The dog was barking, protecting the only home it knew.
Suddenly two intruders are inside. They are loud and aggressive.
The dog knows something is wrong.
What do dogs do?
they bark.
But barking brings police.
How do you silence a barking dog?
You shoot it twice, of course.
Bang. Bang.
Sure. That will silence the crime scene. That will keep the police away.
The little dog will survive, and live with a good forever parent.
The bad guys?
Well I can only hope that they run into a roaming pack of hungry hounds in a back alley.
Wonder how loud evil screams, when it’s getting its ass chewed into pulp.
