You know what’s crazy? I’ll tell you what’s crazy™
The conventions.
Donkeys vs Elephants.
Republicans vs Democrats.
Liberals vs. Conservatives.
Americans vs Americans.
I’m watching the Democratic National Convention. I watched the Republican National Convention last week.
They are the same, but very very different.
The conventions are bombastic and over the top. They are biased and loud and full of patriotic fervor.
Both sides believe they are so right and believe the other side is so wrong.
The 2 conventions showcase a diametrically opposed governmental force.
The differences are like positive polarities of two magnets trying to touch one another. The more you try and force them to touch, the more they repel each other, squirming and fighting to avoid contact.
This repulsion is a perfect reflecting pool of our system and why change in Washington bogs down.
It’s a tug of war with people’s lives with two equal forces pulling equally on one another.
The conventions are the same but so so different.
The Republicans say Clinton should be locked up.
The Democrats say Trump is dangerous.
Both sides could be right. Both sides could be wrong.
The Republican convention was a non stop waving of the American Flag.
I’m looking in the Democratic hall and I don’t see any American flags.
Red for Republicans and Blue for Democrats.
The rhetoric? Sharp like a razor on both sides.
If you bleed red then Clinton is four more years of the same failed 8 years.
If you bleed blue then Trump is a wealthy demagogue who will have access to the launch codes in addition to his potty mouth twitter account.
Though it’s exhausting, it is also entertaining.
The words are ferocious and passionate and it is political theater of the most absurd kind.
The beauty of the conventions is this. If you are blue then this is your week to bask in the wondrous democratic light.
If you are red, then you are watching this week with a bottle of Pepto Bismol by your night stand and a curse word lurking under your breath.
But this is America. Blue or Red, Democrat or Republican, Clinton or Trump.
This is America. This is what makes our country great.
It seems like a buffet of buffoonery, but it’s our buffet, the greatest array of freedom anywhere in the world.
