You know what’s crazy? I’ll tell you what’s crazy™
The execution of two New York Police Officers.
I’m watching the press conference Saturday and I’m appalled.
The headline is sickening.
TWO NYPD OFFICERS EXECUTED
“They were targeted for their uniforms” The NYPD commissioner will say.
They were assigned to a housing authority where there had been an increase in violence. They were doing their jobs, and then killed in the line of duty.
It’s a terrible feeling to think that two police officers, doing their job, protecting and serving, are gunned down in this cowardly, horrific way.
According to witnesses, the shooter, Ismaaiyl Brinsley walked up to police car, got in a firing stance and then opened fire from point-blank range.
Both officers were shot in the head. The commissioner says neither man saw it coming.
Then Grimsley, the piece of filth, the deranged multiple offender ran into the Train station where he put a gun to his own head and pulled the trigger.
I wish that is where the story began.
Crazed lunatic goes into subway station and commits suicide.
It gets 20 seconds on an obscure cable network in New York, but little else.
But the act of barbarism he committed is dirty, nasty, and misguided.
Because it was calculated, because he announced his intentions in Tweets and Instagram it has become a politicized night mare full of tragedy and accusations.
Commissioner Bratton fought back tears as he talked about the heinous act.
I didn’t cry. But I am angry.
I’m disgusted by the act, but I am equally troubled by some of the irrational sentiment on-line.
The killer’s on line manifesto is 160 characters or less. He basically said you kill one of ours. We kill 2 of yours. He said he was going to give pigs wings today.
Essentially he said because of the protests of recent days, he was going armed.
Twitter was enraged and engaged when the massacre happened.
Most of the Tweets were from law-abiding citizens who rightfully wanted to share their outrage at the senseless act. Some of the anger was directed at the New York City Mayor who is reportedly anti cop.
But some of the on-line posts were just uneducated. Some of the Tweets remind me that some people know how to twerk but not tie their own shoes.
Some of the posts remind me that this is a big ass country and some people think that its broken.
I saw one tweet said that the shooter was a hero.
A HERO?
Who is smoking meth while Tweeting?
The post from some woman said: “Was the shooter black? If so kudos to him. I”ll be glad to wear a shirt with his name on it. He’s the real hero.”
This person has a distorted sense of right and wrong.
Even if you really felt this, you should never say it publicly.
This tweet is disrespectful, ignorant, wrong.
It’s like gargling with glass. It’s paprika on your birthday cake. It’s black paint splashed across your Christmas mantel.
There’s something in life called RESPECT.
Some people don’t respect life. They are wired dumb.
They’re a house that was built by a contractor going to prison for using substandard wiring.
“It is an attack on all of us, on all we hold dear,” the Mayor of New York said.
“Every new yorker should feel they were attacked by this heinous individual,” he continued.
One officer was recently married. The other had a 13-year-old kid.
Christmas Mourning.
It turns my stomach.
No presents for these families. No hope that daddy’s walking through that door Christmas Eve.
The stockings are hung like reminders that two souls are lost and a madman turned the world on its ear.
I am putting wings on pigs today, the madman wrote.
Two badges became angels in heaven.
This Tweet sums up my feelings.
“I”ll be watching to see how many pro athletes wear T-shirts supporting the 2 #NYPD Officers assassinated today. #NYPDLivesMatter“
Lives matter. All lives matter.
Some say this act will tear apart our society.
I think it stops us all in our tracks and makes us assess who we are and what our place in the world is.
At the end of the day freedom is a sacred thing. It is a fire stick to be handled carefully. If you hold the wrong end it can hurt you.
Be good to one another people.
After all, we’ve all we’ve got.
Merry Christmas.
God Bless the two officers who are now in a better place.
