You know what’s crazy? Ill tell you what’s crazy.™
The Manti Armstrong soap opera.
Today it was a battle of the T’eo fake girlfriend story versus the Lance Armstrong tells all to Oprah debacle.
They are both off the chart crazy. Teo is bizzaro world crazy. It’s a run away rocket sled of gossip that is fueling internet sites and twitter engines to full capacity.
Armstrong is all you see on the morning news shows.
First Manti: Can you imagine having a relationship with a girl on line? What the hell good is an internet girlfriend. You only interact with her through the ether. Right there I am curious. A star athlete about to make millions of dollars and the best he can do is a fake girl friend who doesn’t really exist?
While it’s salacious and esoteric, to me it’s still not Lance Armstrong crazy.
Lance Armstrong lied to the world, to cancer patients. He was indignant about it.
Lance Armstrong’s lie was so ferocious Jon Stewart said “Armstrong owes cancer an apology.”
Today Lance came clean about his doping. He essentially said he lied cheated and bullied those who accused him of wrong doing.
The Manti Teo story is weird, but so different. Lance made millions lieing to the world. He did it over a decade.
Teo is different. It all starts with his grandma dieing. On the same day, a few hours later he says his girlfriend died.
Ok, that sucks.
Why doubt it. This rock solid citizen at a prestigious school from a reputable Mormon family says his girlfriend died. Why wouldn’t you believe it? Even though it never really ads up.
Then, like an emotionally charged superman, he goes out and wins his game and he speaks openly of the loss of both women in his life.
The grandma and the girlfriend nobody has ever ever seen.
This Paul Bunyon like act propelled the the super star linebacker into the public’s consciousness.
Suddenly it all blows up. The woman didn’t die. maybe she wasn’t even a woman. The relationship was on line. He never met her. The story begins to stink like 3 day old chicken.
So either Manti was duped into a relationship on line that didn’t exist or he was complicit in the deception, withholding the truth, perhaps lieing about the facts, perhaps to advance his own agenda.
It did result in a Heisman Trophy bid.
I have heard some say he did it because he is gay and this was a way to fool people into thinking he had a girlfriend.
That seems pretty far fetched, but many others are now endorsing this speculative theory.
Bombastic broadcaster Stephen A Smith had this to say: “You meet a woman. you give the impression you actually met her. She gets in a car crash and you don’t go see her? She is diagnosed with a disease and you don’t go see her. She dies and has a funeral and you don’t attend? It is tough to believe? The level of emotion he demonstrated for a person he never met, for a person he never touched or caressed or kissed. I mean come on? I am not calling him a liar, but like I said; one plus one equals two. And that is what i am saying.”
Manti Armstrong?
take your pick. both sad.
And that is crazy?™
