You know what’s crazy? I’ll tell you what’s crazy.™
The Baseball Hall of Fame shutting the door on some of baseballs biggest stars.
Barry Bonds? Screw off!
Roger Clemens? Take a hike!
Mark McGwire? Go french kiss a mack truck.
For the first time in 20 years, the baseball writers nominated nobody. That’s right, nobody was nominated to Cooperstown, the hallowed halls of baseball’s elite.
The names that were glossed over were huge, but they were also names associated with cheating and steroids and performance enhancing drugs.
The Hall said no to Roger Clemens; the only 7 time Cy Young winner.
The writers said no to Barry Bonds, who has hit more home runs
than Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth and a record 71 hrs in one season.
Cooperstown slammed the door on Say it ain’t so Sammy Sosa, only the 5th player to hit 600 home runs in major league baseball history.
Why did these household names get dumped? Because they are all forever linked to PEDs.
Tim Kurkjian is a baseball writer who had this to say. “if there is any connection either real or imagined to performance enhancing drugs then you are not getting the writers vote.”
Roger Clemens testified before Congress and said; “let me be clear i have never taken performance enhancing drugs.”
He fought his case in court and he won.
But still he is guilty by association.
Hall of Fame 3rd baseman for the Philadelphia Phillies, Mike Schmidt said “this generation got rich. It seems like there was a price to pay.”
The men who packed people into the seats for so many years, who put up such gaudy numbers, who were the elite of the elite. Now they sit on the outside of the shrine that most felt they would easily enter.
Life is crazy the way it can deal you cards from the bottom of the deck. Or in this case, a spit ball that is there one moment and dances out of the strike zone the next.
And that is crazy.™
