The question is, is it appropriate?
“We are wanting to send a message that there are legal, civil, intelligent and law-abiding citizens who also own guns,” Pagano said during the 90-minute event, which was open to the public. “If it were not for a deep-seated belief in the right to bear arms, this country would not be here today,” he told the crowd, drawing hearty applause and exclamations of “Amen!”
OK. I’m picking up what you are putting down Pastor Pagano.
I love guns just as much as the next guy. I mean I don’t polish them with my eyes closed, stroking the barrel with a greased cloth, or anything. I mean I love shooting them. The blast and recoil and the power they present. I like the way they feel. I like the feel of the metal in my hand, I like the heaviness of the mechanism, I like the fact that the gun is precision balanced. There is an amazing feeling of what if? What if I point this gun at you and pull the trigger. What if I squeeze the trigger and let the forces of physics and fire power meet in a dynamic moment of truth.
Trust me, you enter my house without permission, and as the kids say; “I’d bust a cap in your ass.” and then step over you to put out the trash.
But to me, Church and Guns just don’t compute. The imagery is convoluted. A golden cross on a steeple and a steel blue Colt 45. The imagery juxtaposition is like chewing on tin foil. It leaves a bad taste in your mouth and sends weird shivers up your spine.
I know pastor shoot-em-up billed the service as an “Open Carry celebration”, but I think it was more about self promotion and less about the 2nd amendment. Like every pastor, he’s looking to increase revenue. Revenue increases when pews are filled which increases the option of collection plate amplitude. and what fills up pews quicker than live trucks parked in front of the church of the holy Magnum. It’s a vomitorium of media idiots and God spewing flim flam men all converging in the perfect storm of predictability.
In my estimation The pastor was a whore. The media were whores. The people toting guns were whores. And you know what they say about whores in church? Actually, I don’t know what they say about whores in church, but it has something to do with sweating and unsightly stains in private places.
I still wonder WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?
Kentucky allows residents to openly carry guns in public with some restrictions. Last time I checked, God isn’t checking whose got a carry permit in the pews.
One thing’s for sure, the collection plate was never safer!
