You know what’s crazy? I’ll tell you what’s crazy™
Trump Wins South Carolina.
A year ago, that was the punch line to a joke.
Now it’s a headline in USA TODAY.
What’s changed?
The political landscape.
If this election was a GPS satellite, it would scream; RECALCULATING.
This political path is less established than Columbus’ trek to the New World.
Land Ho Motha F#$%ers. Anyone see the edge of the world?
Americans are calling for change.
Not just a little change, but the kind of radical quick fix that only Bruce Jenner knows.
Political log jams, Do-nothing flow hard, Super Packs, and fart in the wind filibusters just won’t be tolerated.
The status quo has got to go.
The outsiders suddenly have the inside track.
If you live inside the Beltway or have the last name; Clinton, you have trouble.
A year ago Bush was the GOP nominee of choice.
Now he’s got a rotary phone’s chance of making a come back.
Iowa, New Hampshire and now South Carolina are in the books.
And looky looky.
The Donald is sitting at the top of the pack.
Who could have thought that possible a year ago.
The Brash Billionaire who will say anything at any time is the front-runner.
The man who steps on his own tongue every day, continues to race ahead.
Why?
Depends who you ask?
Those who hate Donald say the people who support him are idiots. They say Trump is full of hate and intolerance and self-indulgent bluster.
But those who like Trump do so because he is unafraid to say what he thinks. He is a successful maverick who makes things happen.
He lacks a politician’s polish and that is what makes him shine to many who think politicians are bought and paid for pompous windbags.
Trump fights the Pope and threatens to lose the Christian vote and what happens? He solidifies his base and gets every headline for 2 straight days.
Other politicians are no longer asked what they think about their campaigns, but instead are asked to comment on the rhetoric of their competitor.
It seems counter intuitive, even contrary to a winning campaign paradigm, yet it works.
Trump calls Mexicans criminals and Muslims terrorists.
In a normal politically correct world this would gash his aspirations like a balloon sailing through a cactus patch.
But 2016 is about something crazy.
Trump is unfiltered. He doesn’t listen to the voice in his head before he speaks. He blurts out ideas in machine gun like aggression and then lets social media chew on the words like so much political pate’.
Anyone this politically incorrect is surely a ticking time bomb waiting to implode, right?
Yet that has not been the case. Instead of fueling his destruction, the crazy and loquacious Trump seems to self pollinate his own persona.
The Donald is the Teflon Don.
The media comes after the Billionaire trying to force feed his own insensitive sound bites up his Ars and he laughs it off.
Trump calls Cruz a liar as frequently as Hallmark says I love you at Valentines Day.
The pundits try to get Trump into a corner and he turns their attack into a game of tag your it.
The interview ends and Trump has seemingly won.
No matter what he says, no matter what rude gesture he makes, the public is engaged.
Democrats were supposedly licking their chops at the thought of running against Trump.
Are they still so eager?
The GOP hard liners are reportedly nervous that Trump will win the nomination and subsequently lose the election.
The traditional thought is that TRUMP CANNOT WIN.
Hardliners seem to want professional politicians like Cruz or Rubio to win.
“The best chance to win in November,” they say.
Should they really be so worried?
America has proven it is tired of leaning over the political toilet bowl and gagging into the swirling commode.
Trump wins South Carolina by double digits. Is it the sign of the Apocalypse or the sign of things to come?
The morning shows are filled with effusive talk that makes one wonder how politically balanced anyone is.
“How can Trump be stopped” they pose.
The only way Rubio can beat him is to take him on, one pundit screeches.
He’s the GOP’s worst nightmare, another hollers into the proverbial sauce.
It’s a glass is half empty mentality when George and his round table talk about the Donald.
Perhaps it’s because these political savants have never seen anything like this before.
This is not your daddy’s election.
Usually when a politician puts a loaded pistol in his mouth and pulls the trigger, his political future is blown through the roof of his skull.
But when Donald Trump puts his foot in his mouth, it is news, then food for thought, then a trending topic on Twitter and then a conversation that fuels another media cycle.
It’s truly incredible.
Trump is so interesting, so ridiculous, so poignant, so polarizing, he has drawn viewers to debates and people to the polls.
My teenager is following the political process and I have no doubt it is in large part to Donald Trump.
2016 has all the political pageantry of the Boston Tea Party.
The people are pissed. Whether you are red black white or yellow, it appears you don’t like who represents you in Washington DC.
2016 is people standing on rooftops with mega-phones screaming No taxation without representation!
Give me Liberty or at least someone who’s not vanilla.
People want to dump more than tea in a large body of water.
They want to throw their elected officials into a landfill and reboot.
That’s why Bernie Sanders a Socialist, and Donald Trump – a Billionaire TV personality are leading the pack.
The pundits say if Trump wins the nomination in August, there is no way he can win the presidency.
Why?
Pick a reason.
He is not presidential? He is too adversarial. He is too angry, hot-headed, self-absorbed, self-righteous, inexperienced in foreign affairs.
What’s that thing growing on his head again?
Does it have a license? Does it need its shots.
Doesn’t matter.
He is worth billions, builds things, hires people, and trades all over the globe. Maybe he lives in NYC, maybe he went to Clinton’s wedding once upon a time, maybe he said this or that.
Was he a Democrat?
This is a what have you done for me society and if Trump is what he says he is then that’s what he is.
Are you still judged by a sentence you said 10 years ago?
Do you still believe what you said then?
Life is a journey. Can’t we change our minds, our philosophies, our points of view?
Some are afraid that a President Trump will be bad for the USA, perhaps bad for the human race.
Do you want his finger on the button? What if that thing on his head bites him and he accidentally ignites thermo nuclear obliteration.
What if another world leader calls him a jerk?
Will he send over a seal team of water boarders?
Wouldn’t want to insult ISIS would we?
But ask yourself this.
The pundits say Trump is too angry and too aggressive to have his finger on the button. Will Kim Jong Un flip him the bird and Trump respond with an ICBM?
What about Bernie? Isn’t he too old? What if he slips and falls on the button. OOOPS.
Hillary is a woman. What if she is moody and decides to blow up North Korea because she is cramping.
It’s only a matter of time before Kasich and Carson join Bush on the sidelines.
And then there were 3!
The political pundits think that these votes will be split among the 3 remaining contenders and it will create political congestion in the Republican party.
For some reason they don’t think these votes can go to Trump.
Why not?
They didn’t think he would last this long and here is the front-runner. They didn’t think Trump could call out Mexico, China and the Pope and survive.
Yet here he is the front-runner.
If there’s one thing this political season has taught us it is this:
The American people get to decide what they want this country to look like.
One man – one woman – one vote.
If the trend continues, that vote might just put a Billionaire with a dead animal on his head in the White House.
