You know what’s crazy? I’ll tell you what’s crazy™
Paul McCartney stops smoking pot.
That’s the headline on World News Tonight.
Paul McCartney quits smoking pot.
The cute Beatle is now 72 years old.
After 72 years, it’s news that he has stopped smoking pot?
Apparently, because if you google McCartney and Pot, this story is trending like a wardrobe malfunction on the Victoria Secret runway.
When asked why he no longer inhales, McCartney said he wants to be a good influence for his children and grand kids.
Now we know why the cutest Beatle is also a Knight.
When I first heard this story, I sort of rolled my eyes, saying “Really Sir Paul?”
The man’s 72 years on planet Earth and you are going to quit doing bong hits and rolling spleef now?
Why bother? Who cares?
ABC even went as far as showing the former Beatle being arrested for 10 days in Japan for Marijuana use.
The footage is from the eighties.
I wonder where the hell this story came from. Did Sir Paul Hold a press conference? Did some investigative journalist break this story going through McCartney’s dumpster or underwear drawer?
Is this just a slow news day and something popped up on the wires?
Yep.
I know how news works. One item crosses the wires and suddenly everyone jumps on it like it’s breaking news.
PAUL MCCARTNEY STOPS USING POT.
If it’s put out by a reputable source, the AP or the Washington Post; most news organizations will simply cut and paste and shove it on their own websites as gospel.
A headline like this is gold. It will multiply and procreate like tadpoles on a warm Minnesota night.
So I google this story and I begin reading. There are a lot of references to Pot and McCartney. Most of the words are similarly sourced. Many of the paragraphs are exactly the same.
I scroll down and see some older stories about McCartney and pot. I immediately see today’s headline is accurate, only it needs a whole lot of clarification.
Did McCartney smoke a lotta dope in his day?
Yes. Yes he did.
And he dropped LSD and drank and did a whole bunch of other S**t.
Have you ever listened to the lyrics of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds?
John Lennon says the girl with kaleidoscope eyes was Yoko Ono.
Apparently Lennon couldn’t see through those coke bottle glasses, but I digress.
As it relates to drugs, McCartney said this in a 2004 interview with the Daily Mirror newspaper: “‘Day Tripper,’ that’s one about acid. ‘Lucy In The Sky,’ that’s pretty obvious. There are others that make subtle hints about drugs, but it’s easy to overestimate the influence of drugs on The Beatles’ music. Just about everyone was doing drugs in one form or another, and we were no different, but the writing was too important for us to mess it up by getting off our heads all the time.”
So the Beatle liked drugs. But now the Beatle no longer does drugs.
So McCartney no longer smoking pot is news?
The news stories I’m reading indicate that McCartney made the announcement today, like today he stopped smoking pot.
72 years and he quits smoking pot, TODAY!
That would be news right?
But the news is wrong like a Charlie Manson wedding vow.
From what I’ve read, Paul McCartney is now a health nut. He is a vegetarian, and he exercises a lot and yes, he likes his occasional glass of red wine.
As for Pot?
Apparently he stopped smoking that a long time ago.
That’s the headline. MCCARTNEY STOPS SMOKING POT YEARS AGO.
But he was asked about it TODAY.
So when he said he stopped smoking pot, everyone just assumed he smoked till yesterday then, COLD TURKEY.
NOPE.
The cute Beatle gave up the pot for his health, for his kids, for his image.
A shame the news can’t break a story that is not all ready a decade old.
ha.
As a probably stoned McCartney wrote in Strawberry Fields Forever:
“Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see”
Most Sunday News organizations reported this story with their eyes closed.
