You know what’s crazy? I’ll tell you what’s crazy?™
Pot Laws in this country.
Smoking in some states is legal. In others it’s a slap on the wrist. And still in other states, you can still do hard time for possession of weed.
Can you imagine if you could legally drink Budweiser in Colorado but were given a citation for drinking the same Budweiser in California.
Now imagine popping a Bud in Tennessee.
The last sound you hear is the jail house door slamming you in the ass.
The King of beers is a jail house stooley in some states.
We’re one Nation under God, and yet we are divisible when it comes to Ganja.
It seems we can’t figure out if one of God’s creations is OK to smoke, possess or eat in a brownie?
And where you do one of the above makes all the legal difference in the world.
Last week, two Pittsburgh Steeler’s running backs were pulled over and charged with possession of pot.
“What?” they said to the officer. “It’s illegal to smoke pot?”
“We’re not high anymore,” they said. “We’re on our way to the airport to play a game.”
Had this happened in Washington State, it would never have made the news. While it is illegal to drive impaired, it’s not illegal to smoke pot.
“Thanks for paying the sin tax which pays my salary fellas. Have a nice day,” the cop might say.
But it happened in Pittsburgh where smoking is illegal and the running backs are in big trouble.
Smoking pot is also a violation of the NFL’s drug policy which would seem to supercede all rules of law.
What does all this mean?
It’s a conundrum wrapped in an enigma.
Essentially what’s legal in Colorado, may still be against the law in the NFL.
What’s legal in Colorado is definitely against the law in Tennessee.
The confusion continues at Monday’s Emmy’s. During the red carpet walk down, comedienne Sarah Silverman seemed a bit out of it while doing interviews.
According to published reports; Silverman admitted her purse was packed with her phone, gum and marijuana.
Later, while chatting with another reporter, Silverman took out a vaporizer pen and said, “This is my pot. It’s liquid pot.”
So is that OK in Los Angeles? Is that OK on national TV?
If it was the NFL, and the running backs took out a vaporizer pen and started toking up, would it be illegal? Would it be illegal if they were playing the Seattle Seahawks in Seattle?
How about Silverman? Should she be suspended for 4 games?
If NBC has a drug policy, is she now flagged for illegal toking on broadcast TV?
It’s so convoluded, only people high on pot understand the rules governing pot in this country.
I’ve said this before. I don’t smoke pot. But I would legalize pot all across the country. One law for pot like there’s one law for alcohol.
Everyone is seemingly doing it anyway, so if you can’t beat them, then tax them.
And that’s my main point.
It’s a sin tax. You want to smoke pot, then pay the piper.
Tax the hell out of pot.
If you wanna get high, then pull out your check book.
You wanna get stoned? Pay the tax.
Ganja taxes can pay for roads and schools and infrastructure.
Ganja taxes can pay for the state police who can relax trying to enforce stupid pot laws and go catch real criminals.
We need consistency. We need Sarah Silverman to know that smoking on the red carpet is no different than sipping a martini at happy hour.
