You know what’s crazy? I’ll tell you what’s crazy.
Fighting dogs for sport, that is so crazy it is absurd. It’s so crazy it’s demented and sad and socially abysmal.
Training dogs to fight is disgusting. I’ve seen video of pit bulls fighting, and they don’t stop. They are like flesh and blood terminators with a single objective, to survive.
To survive, they must kill. To kill these tormented creatures snap their powerful jaws like a hydraulic press, trying to impail their opponent in a soft fleshy spot. If they strike right, the fight can end quickly. But rarely does it end quickly. These dogs are not fleshy. These dogs are hard as rock, sineuy muscle creatures of bone. They are the closest things to prehistoric sharks that roam the Earth. These dogs are built for battle. They are tanks with paws. They are the perfect soldier, impervious to pain, and intrepid in the face of certain destruction. And that is why these dogs are so alluring to the scum bags who fight them.
And fight they do. They fight to the death with an intensity only seen in Korean Parliment. The dogs take turns tearing apart each other’s faces. They rip off parts of ears and bite off snouts. They gouge eyes and bleed profusely. They growl like Satan at a riverside baptism.
It’s ugly to be sure.
NFL superstar quarterback Mike Vick was the ring leader of this abhorent blood sport.
And he paid a huge price for his transgressions. He went to federal prison for 2 years and lost tens of millions of dollars in salary and endorsements.
On Thursday, August 13th, Vick’s agent announced the immensely talented and polarizing figure signed a two-year deal with the Eagles, which reportedly could be worth more than $6 million. The Report also indicates, that Vick won’t be able to play a regular season game until week six in October, and then, only if the National Football League fully reinstates him.
Whether Vick should play again in the NFL is extremely controversial. It’s not abortion rights crazy, but it might be when the season kicks into gear. To some Vick is a horrible human who was cruel beyond description to innocent animals. Reports of the fighting and training techniques practiced at his Virginia home were difficult to stomach
To others, dog fighting is not that big a deal. In some country’s it is very acceptable. It’s a place to wager and take your date. In Mexico and Spain you can find a bull fight every day. How humane is that? Sticking sharp spears in an animal, to make sure it is thoroughly pissed off.
Though the United States likes to think of itself as a progressive, humane country, you can find an animal fight in every state in the union. There are just some people who don’t care if animals suffer.
Vick pleaded guilty. He went to prison. He has shown contrition. Some say it is more marketing than heartfelt, but he has stayed consistent and on point.
The new Michael Vick realizes that what he did was wrong, and he is sorry.
Some Eagles fans don’t think Vick’s punishment was sufficient and claim they will unload their game and season tickets on craigslist.com, making it clear they were less than eager to see Vick in Philly green.
I mean what do they want? Do they want to spread peanut butter on Vick’s ass cheeks and let rabies infected rats gnaw on his skin. Do they want to cover his private parts with Alpo and let the very dogs he fought, go a few rounds?
A post from one irked fan looking to peddle two lower-level season tickets said: “The last thing my son and I want to see is Michael Vick in an Eagles jersey. We made up our mind to sell the tickets … $3000 cash gets the tickets. Any info feel free to ask, serious buyers only, I want the deal done fast.”
So people are willing to sell their tickets to voice their displeasure. That’s cool. That’s how America works.
Then there are the fringe groups like People for Ethical Treatment of Animals. No offense, but members of this organization are crazier than Taliban with tank grenades.
The Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have both skewered Vick. The latter alluded to Vick being a “psychopath” earlier this year and released a statement Friday saying, “Millions of decent football fans around the world are disappointed” in the Eagles.
I’ve dealt with PETA, and their message is usually high intensity blather. But they certainly have a right to question the NFL and the Eagles for hiring Vick.
My question is this. Doesn’t the bible say forgive. Isn’t the United States of America a country of forgiveness? Doesn’t the man deserve to be given a second chance? Hasn’t he paid his debt to society?
I mean NFL players have killed human beings and got less severe punishment.
Can you say Leonard Little? This NFL player has almost as many kills as Jeffery Dalhmer.
Just ask Donte Stallworth of the Cleveland Browns. He admitted to being drunk and running a man down in a Miami street. Bam! DEAD GUY! He barely did a calendar page in the slammer, before he was set free. The NFL suspended him for a year. Wow, can you say slap on the wrist?
He killed a man? He was drunk, behind the wheel and he ran a man down and killed him. And the outcry from groups like P.E.T.P. (People for the Ethical Treatment of People) is non existent. You know why? because people don’t care when people die. Compared to a chicken or a bunny or a dog, the silence when a human dies is staggering.
But God forbid that Michael Vick fights dogs. Cruel? Yes. But to many humans on this planet, they are just animals.
Vick served his time, and now he is ready to begin phase 2 of his life.
Let him do community service for animal issues. Let him go on tv and warn others to be humane. It will create more media buzz for the cause than any idiotic PETA stunt where they lay on the sidewalk covered in blood.
I say shut up and let him play. You want to sell your tickets, go ahead. You want to wave your signs about how much you hate M.V. feel free. But the man has paid his debt to society, and I say shut up and let him play.
