I wrote this 2 plus years ago and stumbled upon it while I was cleaning up the Life’s Crazy site.
I read the 1st line. Then the 2nd. Then I thought to myself; this is still as appropriate today, as it was 750 days ago, 750 years ago.
Hope.
I think it’s what keeps people going. When times are tough, hope allows us to weather the storm, to hunker down, to push forward to that better place.
Hope is a lottery ticket in your back pocket. No you are not going to win. But you know what? You might. Hope is that inkling of what if I perservere, what if.
That’s hope. It keeps you going, keeps your blood pumping, puts a smile on your face and a sense of purpose in your heart.
Sometimes when there is nothing else, hope is all you have.
Hope is the belief that living a good life will be rewarded on the other side.
Hope is the invisible feeling that if you can hang in there long enough, absorb enough of life’s body blows, rope a dope with the devil, and last the round, you will be rewarded by a fickle throw of life’s dice.
The idea is that there is only a finite amount of luck that undulates on a current of forever, and every now and then, if you hang in there long enough, if you have hope, you will catch that wave.
Hope is the wind that fills humanity’s sail. It pushes us across a vast, enigmatic sea toward a golden sunset of fullfilment and bliss.
Hope allows us to journey on toward something better.
Without hope, civilizations perish and humanity becomes a zombie walking through a bog of despair.
They say the minute you are born you start dying. That’s a negative way to look at the first moments of life.
You come into this world, screaming, ripping, fighting, clawing.
You are wiped off and placed on your mother’s bosom. It is soft and warm and peaceful there.
This is the begining of a precious gift, a journey filled with, you guessed it – hope.
Hopefully, your mother will shower you with unconditional love providing you with a nurturing environment.
Hopefully you will be warm.
Hopefully you will be healthy.
Hopefully you will be fed in sanitary conditions.
Hopefully you will be educated.
Hopefully you will be loved.
Hopefully you will love.
Life’s journey is an arduous one. They say money buys happiness. They say ignorance is bliss. They say the truth will set you free.
I say hope is the straw that stirs life’s proverbial drink.
With hope, there is possibility.
Without hope, life is a long hike without a compass or sense of purpose.
Keep hope alive. It’s there. You just need to put it in your back pocket.
And that is crazy.™
