You know what’s crazy? I’ll tell you crazy!
DATELINE: LOS ANGELES – A Southern California immigrant rights group on Friday asked Target stores and a costume company to stop selling an “illegal alien” Halloween costume it said is offensive to immigrants.
I wonder if E.T. in the Crab Nebula is firing off an email right now to Earth protesting the ridiculous portrayal of space aliens always having big sad droopy eyes.
What about that stereo type?
So what happened next? The usual corporate cave in. A few well placed emails and the corporation pulls the product from the shelves.
Where is the corporate testosterone on this one fellas?
Target squats to pee. They don’t care? They are going to sell a billion Halloween costumes this year. What’s one “Illegal Alien” get up? Pull it from the shelves and the negativity goes away!
“Alien clean up in aisle 14”
You know who suffers? The company that produces the costume suffers. They have a work force that probably counts on Halloween for big sales. They produce masks and jump suits and green cards. Halloween is the Holy Grail for stupid items like this. Who suffers? The employees of this company suffer. Big sales equate to continuing employment, which means food on the table and clothes on their children’s backs. It means these families can see a doctor when they are sick and get their teeth checked when they have cavities. And you know what, there may be an “illegal alien” or two who actually work for this company. Maybe they do the lawn, or work in the plant, who knows? You think they’re offended by a space man in an orange suit holding a green card? They are happy to be getting paid. Who suffers you ask? Everyone suffers.
Angelica Salas says her group also planned to send letters to other companies that are selling the costume.
Target for one is removing the costume from the site after receiving several complaints, company spokesman Joshua Thomas said Friday. The store never intended to sell the outfit but included it in its online offerings by mistake, he said.
It’s just Crazy!
A mistake? Only going to sell it on line? Is that any less offensive?
It’s a Halloween Costume? It’s going to be worn one day and that’s it. How insulted can you possibly be? What “furthering of stereotypes” are we talking about?
Using the same principles, should HoBo’s be offended because some kid is wearing a ripped shirt and smoking a cigar.
Where does it end? Who the hell isn’t offended on Halloween? That’s part of the fun. Getting to dress up and be someone other than yourself. Push the limits a little. Nobody stands in front of the mirror Oct. 31st and says; “Now who is going to be offended by this Wonder Woman costume?”
The Justice Leeg of America, that’s who.
My advice to Target and Sears and WalMart and Party USA;
Grow a pair!
Freedom of Expression is what this country was founded on, and thankfully, I have the right to express myself, even if you don’t like what I’m expressing.
If that means I want to wear an extra terrestrial mask in an orange jump suit, then I should be able to.
That’s not crazy, it’s AMERICA!
If you don’t like it, move.
