You know what’s crazy? I’ll tell you what’s crazy.™
The Olympic Committee threatening to strip Michael Phelps of his gold medals.
That’s like the Key Stone Cops trying to arrest Al Capone.
Haven’t we had enough Olympics all ready? Just go away, please!
So I turn on the morning news the other day and the headline reads: In Hot Water.
In Hot Water! Who? For What?
It’s all about Michael Phelps and some photograph that got out.
Apparently someone released an add for Louis Vitton during the Olympics. Louis Vitton is not an Olympic sponsor and apparently releasing an ad during the 2 weeks of the Olympics is a no no.
I didn’t see it. You didn’t see it. But apparently, somewhere, like a grain of rise hidden in Indo China, some photograph got out, and now all Olympic hell is breaking loose.
It all centers around a single image of Phelps in his Speedo in a bath tub full of water.
I’m sure the ladies love it. The IOC doesn’t.
what’s ironic; all I saw for 2 weeks were commercials for products featuring Olympic athletes.
Pro tennis players and NBA superstars were competing while their ads played across the spectrum of time and space.
So what. It’s the new millennium way. Can anyone say DREAM TEAM?
Phelps is the king of commercial capitalization. Phelps is global. His face is on everything.
Now you’re gonna strip his gold medals? People watched your dumb Olympics because of Michael Phelps. You think anyone really cared about swimming a 100 yard back stroke if not for the compelling story of Michael Phelps being spun 24/7 by NBC?
Instead of worrying about a bathtub photo, the IOC should spend more time sensoring its opening ceremonies. They did kind of drag on in a non-sensical, Benny Hill, kind of way.
Phelps’ says the photo was leaked to the media. Phelps says he didn’t do it and he doesn’t know who did it.
His group put out a statement that reads in part: “An athlete cant control unauthorized uses any more than you can guarantee that someone wont break into your house.”
Game. Set. Match.
The Olympic Committee is threatening to strip Phelps of medals which would jeopardize his all time record.
I suggest they shut the hell up and try and figure out how Rio is going to even come close to the success that was London 2012.
And that is crazy.™
