You know what’s crazy? I’ll tell you what’s crazy.™
The Heisman committee is crazy.
They took away Reggie Bushes Heisman trophy because his parents may have accepted money from a sports agent.
The committee DIDN’T take it away because he took drugs, creating a unfair competitive advantage on the field. If that was the case, I could endorse that.
The Heisman measures college football’s most outstanding college player. If that player is juiced up, then OK, strip him of the hardware.
But that’s not what happened. This penalty has nothing to do with anything that took place on the football field. It has to do with money exchanging hands between a kid’s parents and an unsavory agent who should be hung by his nuts.
The Heisman Trust took away the most hallowed award in college 5 years after the fact. Not one year. Not two years. 5 years! Are you kidding me? The statute of limitations for some felonies is less.
How far back is OK? 10 years? 20 years? Screw it, why not investigate Golden Boy Paul Hornung. He won in 1956. that’s only 54 years ago. I’m sure he isn’t all milk shakes and halos. Take his GD trophy. Who cares! Why not?
It’s a terrible terrible decision. Put simply: IT’S CRAZY!
Bush received the 2nd most votes in Heisman history and the Heisman trust takes away college football’s premiere award because of something that may or may not have happened off the football field.
If it’s proven he’s high as a kite on HGH. That’s an unfair football advantage and I say: Take the Heisman.
If they prove he cheated as a football player, then I check the box that says: Take the Heisman.
But nobody has connected those dots. All I’ve ever heard in this four year convoluded, we gotta come up with something investigation, is that Reggie’s parents may have taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from a sports agent.
Maybe. Could Be. Might Have. Ah, who cares. Take the Heisman!
It tarnishes the player. It tarnishes a university. It tarnishes Trojan Nation. Cripes, it tarnishes the Heisman Trust in my opinion.
What a sloppy move.
Reggie has never publicly admitted wrong doing, though his latest TWEETS indicate something illegal did go down.
But what about the people who took the money? I have never heard Reggie’s parents say; “Yeah, when Reggie was 19 years old, we took a couple of hundred thousand bucks. Yeah we got a house to live in. Yeah, we were down on our luck and we needed a place to live and it seemed like the right thing to do at the time. We’re sorry.”
No I have never heard this.
As far as I can tell, there has been no trial or verdict. They settled out of court. OK, it seems “hinky” Is there culpability? Undoubtedly.
But by stripping a recipient, the Heisman Trust has created a very serious precedent.
Who’s next?
Hershel Walker? He had split personality disorder. That’s weird. Take his Heisman.
What about Marcus Allen. He’s a Trojan and I saw him getting into a limo with OJ Simpson and a bunch of song girls. Nothing good can come from being with OJ in the limo with song girls. Right? Take his Freaking Heisman.
Ty Detmer won it while quarterbacking BYU. He’s Mormon. So What? He probably snuck a caffeinated beverage while he was in school. Sorry, you sinned against your own church. Take the F-in Heisman.
How bout Ricky Williams. He’s a ganja smoking, Hindu embracing freak-a-zoid who wore a wedding dress on the cover of Sports Illustrated. That’s unusual and I think in this new world order of Heisman Giveth – Heisman taketh away: I say taketh away.
I cant imagine all the guys standing on that Heisman stage have lived exemplary lives. They were great football players, but were they great human beings? I doubt it.
If they can retroactively strip Reggie of his Heisman, what about Tony Dorsett? What about Billy Sims or Vinnie Testaverde? They should take Vinny’s trophy for wearing camoflauge pants at the Orange Bowl. What a dumb ass.
Is everyone clean as a whistle? What about their parents? What if their daddy beat their mommy? What if they took money from the university on the slide? What if? what it? what if? Aunt mable stole a snickers bar from the Wal Mart. Take Barry Sanders’ Heisman. Give me a F-in Break!
It opens a trap door of danger.
How far back do you go? what kind of proof is enough proof. Is Yahoo Sports a strong enough investigative force? What if the allegations are coming from TMZ? How about Maxim Magazine. What if Paris Hilton says the cocaine in the purse didn’t belong to her. Who you gonna believe?
There is just no consistency here. This is serious business. The Trust is taking the trophy that will define that player for the rest of his life.
And it’s not just Reggie Bush who is being penalized. I think the entire body of USC is suffering. The fans. The students. The alumni. This is lemon juice on a sunburn. This is a condom lined with razor blades. It’s just bad for everyone.
I mean look what this four year long witch hunt has brought Trojan Nation. Pete Carroll slunk away from USC with his thong tucked between his thighs. He’s replaced by Lane Kiffin, the scourge of Vol Nation. It’s just a matter of time, right? Then there’s former Heisman winner, and long time USC A.D. Mike Garrett who got the ax. Why not strip him of his Heisman for the hell of it. He was a part of the Reggie debacle right? This investigation is hurting current players who were in 8th grade when this crap began. It saw the NCAA hit the team with 2 years worth of sanctions that would cripple lesser programs. But USC will over come. Trust me. What doesn’t kill a Trojan will only make them more dangerous.
In the middle of this hurricane of breaking news, Reggie Bush said this:
“One of the greatest honors of my life was winning the Heisman Trophy in 2005,” the statement released by the New Orleans Saints reads. “For me, it was a dream come true. But I know that the Heisman is not mine alone. Far from it. I know that my victory was made possible by the discipline and hard work of my teammates, the steady guidance of my coaches, the inspiration of the fans, and the unconditional love of my family and friends. And I know that any young man fortunate enough to win the Heisman enters into a family of sorts. Each individual carries the legacy of the award and each one is entrusted with its good name. It is for these reasons that I have made the difficult decision to forfeit my title as Heisman winner of 2005.”
Now people say give the award to Vince Young.
You want to make a statement. Give it to nobody. Have a big empty nothing under the year: AND THE 2005 HEISMAN TROPHY WINNER IS…..
Vince Young says he would take the award if offered. Hey Vince, this isn’t the Miss America contest.
And that’s all I got. I’m spent. The Heisman Trust can try and take my keyboard from me cause I threw a rock threw Mark Recupero’s window in 5th grade, but it ain’t happening.
Cause I am crazy!
