You know what’s crazy? I’ll tell you what’s crazy.™
Opening up your high school text book and reading: “Jesus was a wine guzzling vagrant and precocious socialist.”
Yikes.
Just to keep your cards and letters to a minimum, I didn’t write that. You see those quotation marks right?
I mean, how does this get by the guys who buy the books for the school? don’t they read what they put in the kid’s bookbags?
DATELINE: BEDFORD, New Hampshire
According to published reports, the book in question is Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America, written by Barbara Ehrenreich. The book was assigned to students at Bedford High School personal finance class.
According to local news reports, Ehrenreich writes:
“But Jesus makes his appearance here only as a corpse. The living man, the wine guzzling vagrant and precocious socialist is never once mentioned.”
Like this isn’t going to get the holy rollers rolling?
Come on school system. Wise up. don’t you have enough problems all ready with teen illiteracy and pregnancy and drug and alcohol abuse.
Were your teachers to busy sexually molesting their students to catch this one?
Now you need Jesus bashing?
Well you knew some family was going to go all wailing wall on you and the family in question is Aimee and Dennis Taylor. They claim their 16 year old son was so upset he wanted to be taken out of the school. His parents tried to convince him to stay, but he is now being home schooled.
I know plenty of kids who want to leave school and Jesus has nothing to do with it. I think it’s called math and social studies and chemistry.
So the family says the “text book” is anti Christian. Some school members say the “test book” has educational value.
It’s all mental masturbation.
Haven’t you figured it out yet people.
If you are going to teach kids, you need to make sure what you are teaching them is appropriate and accurate.
Who the hell knows if Jesus liked wine or whether he would be a modern day tea party member.
Who knows?
All I’m saying is, if you can’t document it then don’t include it in a school book for kids. Wait till they get to college and they study philosophy and the class asks you to question the world.
But not in Public H.S. Please.
This was a “Personal Finance Class”
What the heck does Jesus’ alleged taste for wine have to do with a personal finance class? You see what I’m saying?
How dumb are you educators in New Hampshire.
What are you going to teach me next, that Adam and Eve evolved from apes?
And that is crazy!
